A great new blog, I'm writing a history of the Dunning area and have wtitten a bit on the Dunning Family. I do have some history of the Asylum and background of the area. I hope this site will continue.
The story of the Cook County Hospital for the Insane (which was also used as a house for the poor) can be told without a history of the Dunning family. Dunning was the common name for the property, but was never official name.

My great great uncle was sent to dunning, let me add he wasent really insane.his name was henery herion. He was quiet wealthy and had a wife,he took a large amount of money from the bank because they were gunna relocate,his wife took the money and ran off. He spent the rest of his money drinkning and got into big arguments with his only sister jophine who resited in the family home that there father built eli herion to sell the home he wanted his half due to eli and there moms passing.she refused and called dunning to get him on the big green bus, during which he showed sighns of being upset,alcohol with draw and angry at his wife and sister my grear grandma.he died there when they called for the body to be retrieved by the family( which his parents had baught a family plot one grave for him) my great grandma refused.he was buring ing dunning cemetary,her daughter was buried in his spot. Now my family is known to have a curse on us by henery through another patiet who considered herself to be able to put curses on families. I can only say many many bad things had accured in our family,both my sons have brain problems one has ptst after being beat,robbed and set on fire and survived,my other son sufferes from cluster migrains....many issues of head injuries and problems my great great uncle went through multiple shock treatments,that's only my children other family members have had other head injuries. Ironic my only other uncle in our family who died 2yrs ago was handed over to cook county mourge who was involved in bodies being buried in multiples...besides many many other bad issues in our family ! The house built by eli henerys and my great great grandmas father,well they can't keep it sold.they use the word stigna......every person who baught the house well bad luck,renters leaving quikly,him loosing money almost bankrupt ! House is still having issues with spirits so they say!
